My Dad

A few minutes ago I wrote my first email telling my friends and family that my father passed away last night. It was the strangest experience, to write of him, to THINK of him, in the past tense. His life is now final and complete.

I don't mean to be maudlin, but I am filled with a strong sense of appreciation and thankfulness for all the support I've received over the past months, much of it from folks who I don't know well. Doctors, nurses, home support workers, my fellow bloggers and writers, and of course my friends. 'Thank you' seems anemic, but it is heartfelt.

As my life (hopefully!) settles down into more predictable patterns, I look forward to blogging on a more regular basis and re-joining this wonderful community.

  1. I'm sending you my condolences, Karen. I'm not sure what happened and will try to read back through your posts.

My father suffers from Alzheimers and I feel like I have been losing him one little piece at a time for a couple of years now.

  4. CMSmith, thank you for your condolences. My father died of liver failure and I am very thankful that the end came quickly without much suffering. He lived a long, happy and productive life and I am blessed to have many happy memories.

Gene Pool (love your name by the way!), thank you for your kind words, they are much appreciated. :)

Occupy, thank you. My father was a man of faith and your message reminds me of something he would have said. I appreciate it.

  5. Hello Karen:

I have yet to find words that can express an appropriate support for you as you travel through these challenges in life. I have travelled the road before too and I have not found a roadmap to pass along to you. However, my prayers and thoughts are for you as you collect your memories and bring them into your being.

You are a unique person who has the proven to be an unselfish and powerful resource for others as we struggle with the depth of the of the world of writing.

May peace be with you in your journey.
